New Hiker

Force 10 Cargo Pants - NYCO

"Who says you have to sacrifice form for function? TAD Gear brings us more top-quality gear by way of their new Force 10 cargo pant. Made from military spec 50/50 nylon cotton Ripstop fabric, the Force 10′s improve on their previous version with a streamlined silhouette for a lower profile, fewer lines and reduced bulk. TAD still managed to include eight pockets, D-rings on the front belt loop for attaching accessories & keys, knee slots for inserting T-Pro Knee Armor, and reinforced knees and pocket clip patches.

Note: The D-rings are made from ITW Nexus GhillieTex, a high-strength plastic, so you won’t have to worry about setting off any metal detectors."

Ranger Hoodie LT

"Do Youlike jackets with pockets? If so, the Ranger LT fleece is for you.

I’m not kidding when I say it there’s a place for a pocket, Triple Aught Design has put one there. It’s simply unreal how much stuff you can stash in this fleece. Both arms have fairly large pockets. There are two chest pockets. Behind you, there’s even a large pocket for stashing your gloves. Thumb holes are also provided on the sleeves."

If you happen to use the Ranger LT as an insulation layer while skiing, there’s a wrist pocket too. This means if you ski at a resort that uses RFID passes, you won’t have to give up a regular pocket to store the pass. Considering my local resort just switched to RFID, this has been a great feature to have.

The quality of construction in this jacket is quite good. Double stitching is used wherever possible. So, you shouldn’t have any problems with seams ripping. Mesh fabric is used for the pockets. This means your gloves will say nice and warm when stashed inside.

The fit is what I’ll call athletic. If you’re used to Arc’teryx products, it’s along these lines. If you want a baggy fleece, order a size larger than you normally do. This does work quite well as a mid layer under a shell as there isn’t a lot of extra fabric.

In the past couple months of using this fleece, I haven’t run into many problems. At times it’s a bit hard to zip up, and the seams are a bit large. Other than that, it has held up well and works well around town or for more athletic activities.

When it comes down to it, this is a pretty nice fleece. While there’s not usually a lot one can say about a fleece jacket, TAD has put some thought into this one. It has more features than any other fleece that I’ve run across. You can even get a version that supports velcro patches on the shoulder.

At $220, this is on the high side for a fleece jacket. However, considering the features of the jacket and that it’s actually made in the USA, I don’t think it’s too bad. There are a few made in china Arc’Teryx fleeces in my closet that retail for around that and don’t have the features that this one does. You can purchase the Ranger LT directly from TAD’s web page."

Military Times: Gear Scout

Force 10 Cargo Pants - NYCO

"Triple Aught Design today released their Force 10s in a new 50/50 NYCO (Nylon Cotton) Ripstop fabric. The guys tell me, “The multi-functional, highly durable fabric combined with the clean lines of the cargo pant seamlessly goes from the battle field to dinner with style.” I’m not sure about that, but they do look like good, harddwearing field pants.

Geargals - Valkyrie LT

Valkyrie Hoodie LT

"[The Valkyrie LT] is a very well designed jacket and I do like to wear it when I can...I’ll say for sure that if a fleece jacket is what you’re in the market for, this is an excellent one to consider. The details are extremely well-executed. The jacket is of high quality, well constructed, with excellent attention to detail. TAD is clearly a company that can make good, tough clothing and can design well for the female body."

Gear Patrol

Ranger Hoodie LT

Triple Aught Design produces gear fit for the mountains of Afghanistan and the afternoon commute. You can blame founder Patrick Ma for the perfect balance – with his military background and a never-ending-commitment to product testing in the Western state proving grounds. The newly released Ranger Hoodie LT ($220) is no different and evolves on the heavier weight Ranger Hoodie’s design.

Made from Polar-Tec Wind Pro fabric that’s been coated with a DWR treatment, the LT is a lean, mean, piece of kit that will block 4 times as much wind as regular fleece and is even water-resistant in light rain. In other words, it’s got the chops to serve as a dependable piece of outerwear, but can also layer under a shell or parka thanks to its slim cut. Ergonomics weren’t spared at the expense of performance either. The Ranger Hoodie LT has six pockets arranged for quick access, plus a lay flat Aero hood, thumb holes integrated into the seams and discrete pit ventilation. Now, does your hoodie have all that?

Author’s Note: If the outdoors, travel, or adventure are your thing, we highly suggest checking out the entire drool-worthy TAD lineup."
