For millennia, the North Star has provided a guiding hand to explorers trying reach the uncharted coasts of far-off lands. The easiest way to track down the North Star is, as the patch suggests, by following the two points in the bowl of the Big Dipper straight to Polaris. Included in the design is our homage to the stars - "Ad Eundum Quo Nemo Ante Iit". Translated, it means "to boldy go where no man has gone before." The origins of morale patches trace back to the fighter plane nose art of World War I. During the Vietnam War, units often created ironic, humorous morale patches.
